If the catcher was hit, the call should have been strike three, and the ball declared dead, instead of a drop third strike play. The inning would have been over with the Cubs leading 5-4. Currently backswings are not reviewable. The home plate umpire presumably did not see the backswing hitter Wieters. The Cubs took a 6-4 lead. |

The Cubs led 1-0, then trailed 4-1, 4-3, and then led 7-4, 8-6 and 9-7 and 9-8, in Game 5, which lasted more than 4 1/2 hours and ended just before midnight CDT on Thursday and after midnight Friday in Washington DC.
