Fugitive and former La Salle County deputy Lowell “Max” Ambler was peacefully taken into custody Thursday morning October 5, 2017 and transported to Lee County Jail, following a four-day manhunt, and after police contacted Ambler at a house shortly after 7:30 a.m. Thursday. Ambler had hijacked a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe in Plainfield Wednesday morning and returned to Earlville. |
Police surrounded a house at 316 North Second Street in Earlville, and Ambler surrendered to police as he exited the house sometime after 9:30 a.m., and after he communicated with his father -- a former state trooper and Earlville police chief -- during a negotiations period. Ambler was charged September 15, 2017 with home invasion and aggravated kidnapping, following an incident in late August 2017 in Compton -- allegedly holding a Lee County teenager against her will by duct-taping her hands and head. Ambler was released on bond days later, but violated bond conditions when he drove to Plainfield, where his victim was staying with family. |
