Truck Driver from Kenosha Killed When SUV Driver Crosses Russell Rd, Newport Township • THU OCT 12, 2017 6:54 PM CT








Lake County Sheriff's deputies and Newport Township firefighter/paramedics responded about 5:10 a.m. Thursday, October 11, 2017 to Russell Road near the intersection of Russell Road and Park Lane to a report of a head on crash involving a semi-trailer truck and an SUV. Rescuers arrived to find a Volvo semi-trailer truck with a 40,000 pound load rolled over in a ravine, and the truck driver with life-threatening injuries. The semi-truck tractor was resting upside down on the south side of Russell Road with the trailer upside down on Russell Road and perpendicular to Russell Road.

Both drivers were transported by firefighter/paramedics to St. Catherine's Medical Center in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where the truck driver was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.		 A preliminary investigation by Lake County Sheriff's personnel determined that a 38-year-old female driver from Geneva, Illinois was eastbound on Russell Road when her Jeep Compass SUV crossed the double-yellow center divider and struck a westbound Volvo truck, driven by a 65 year-old Kenosha man. Investigators did not initially know what caused the Jeep Compass to cross the centerline.


The driver of the Jeep, who was treated and released is reported to be cooperating with the investigation by the Lake County Sheriff's Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
