Patrick Kane hit a wrist shot from the right circle that passed by Blue Jackets backup goaltender Joonas Korpisalo for a 1-0 lead with only 1 minute, 33 seconds into the game. Brandon Saad scored his fourth goal of the season at 6:04 in the first period.

Jonathan Toews got his first goal of the season in the second period. Defenseman Jan Rutta hit his first NHL goal with a wrist shot at 12:51, following a feed from Patrick Kane in the second period. 
Richard Panik got his second goal of the season in the third period.
